"It’s more gratifying..."

I had worked for very large national corporations for over 30 years. I got laid off in 2016 and was disappointed but I took the opportunity to step back and reflect on what I really wanted to do. When you’re looking for a job, Your Part-Time Controller turns up everywhere. YPTC kept popping up and I kept reading about its concept.

I like the idea of being a consultant and having a variety rather than doing the same thing over and over. The whole concept of working for a company that supports nonprofits and the idea of giving something back, and that has a solid altruistic mission, is very gratifying.

I like being able to take a comprehensive approach with a client and getting to see the full accounting cycle instead of just focusing on one small piece of it, which is how it works in large companies. It’s more gratifying. Large companies move very slowly and you can work on something for three or four years and not see much momentum. At YPTC you come to your clients and you get to finish something. You can enter a really messy situation and when you get their books all cleaned up that’s gratifying.

YPTC has been voted a Best Place To Work. They offer a 35-hour work week where you can work as much or as little as you like, with the potential to earn extra money in overtime to meet client demands. There’s also great support: you’re out there by yourself but if you are not really sure about how to handle a certain accounting issue your managers are there to help you work it through.
