Are you a small nonprofit based in Illinois and passionate about addressing food and housing insecurity, or empowering individuals through job placement initiatives? If so, the Charitable Trust Stabilization Fund administered through the Illinois State Office of the Treasurer may be the beacon of hope you are looking for. Offering spring and fall grant cycles each awarding grants of up to $20,000, the Charitable Trust was developed with the intention of helping small nonprofits with annual budgets of $1 million or less. The Charitable Trust Grant program has awarded $4.2 Million in grants to 211 charitable organizations in 65 cities across Illinois, according to the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office. The state filing fees of nonprofits to incorporate in Illinois are used to fund the Charitable Trust; a wonderful example of nonprofits helping nonprofits.

According to Feeding America, approximately 1.2 million Illinois residents are experiencing food insecurity. Moreover, housing instability affects thousands of families, with reports indicating a significant number of individuals experiencing homelessness or living in substandard conditions. The Spring 2024 Grant Cycle, running from January 1 – March 31, will award grants to nonprofit charitable programs in two categories: Food and Housing.

Joblessness compounds the challenges faced by many Illinois residents, exacerbating economic disparities and limiting opportunities for upward mobility. Recognizing the transformative power of employment, the Fall 2024 Grant Cycle, running from July 1 – September 30, will award grants to organizations in two categories: Food and Economic & Workforce Development.
