Isaiah House

"YPTC really feels like a partner"

Isaiah House CT Headshot

Since their founding in 1988, Isaiah House has served, with dignity and respect, tens of thousands of homeless and at-risk families including People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs), families of every definition, single women, and mothers with newborns. Their overall mission is to reduce the prevalence of homelessness in the greater Newark, NJ region through a variety of programs.

Zammeah Bivins-Gibson, Executive Director of Isaiah House takes us back to the beginning when they first discovered YPTC, “It had been decades since we had someone fully managing our finances. We had a bookkeeper that did the basics, but it wasn’t to the level of what we needed. Our audit was such a mess to the point that board members were trying to assist us. We needed real support, and we needed to get out of a messy situation. YPTC stepped in and helped us with the hiring process of Dennis Mcnany, our now Finance Manager.”

Dennis praises Karen Troche, Associate, “[She] has been excellent to work with as far as specific projects including enhanced financial reporting. She learned Reach Reporting inside and out, which made it easier for us to transition and overlay on top of QuickBooks.”

Zammeah adds, “YPTC really feels like a partner. They have your back. It’s very clear that they have our best intentions at heart, and they even support our fundraising events by attending. We’ve had a nice warm fuzzy feeling about each one of them. Between our previous team members, Karen T and David Judge, I couldn’t ask for better people on our team, they are all genuinely nice people.”

“I don’t think that most of us know what we really need until we have it. There were times when I couldn’t see how YPTC was going to help us, especially not being physically present, but I’ve learned so much since then and it is truly worth it. YPTC has helped us improve our overall auditing practices, reporting, and operations. It’s helped me be a better executive director just by knowing and understanding what I’m looking for, so I would certainly recommend to other nonprofits,” says Zammeah.
