Morris Brown College
"Closed six months of open books in less than two months"

Morris Brown College, founded in 1881 in Atlanta, Georgia, is a private, historically Black liberal arts college affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Established by African Americans for African Americans, Morris Brown holds a unique place in U.S. history as one of the few Historically Black Colleges and Universities founded entirely by Black individuals. The college has a proud legacy of academic excellence, leadership development, and community service. Today, it offers programs in business, hospitality management, and organizational leadership, with a renewed focus on innovation and student success.
Shermanetta Carter, CPA, CFO of Morris Brown, recalls learning about YPTC from Bishop Michael Mitchell, who recommended the firm based on his positive experience. One of the organizations he oversees had utilized YPTC’s services, and he spoke highly of their professionalism, expertise, and the value they brought to that organization’s financial operations.
Reflecting now on her own experience with YPTC, Shermanetta says the firm has played a pivotal role in strengthening Morris Brown College’s financial operations. She highlights that YPTC Associate Molly Haddon and Staff Accountant Alexis Murray stepped in during a critical period and successfully closed six months of open books in less than two months, bringing much-needed clarity and structure to the College’s financial records.
“Closing six months of open books was no small feat, but they handled it with precision and urgency,” Shermanetta says. “Molly and Alexis are highly skilled, detail-oriented, efficient, reliable, and responsive,” she continues. “They also developed customized templates and roll-forward schedules to streamline future reporting and ensure consistency.”
Shermanetta feels that the YPTC team is “not only timely and professional, but also integrated seamlessly with the College’s culture, becoming a trusted and valued part of the Morris Brown family.”
“I would absolutely recommend YPTC,” Shermanetta concludes. “They are experts in the field of nonprofit accounting, working with us to get the job done in a way that is not disruptive to our day-to-day operations. I believe other nonprofits would benefit greatly from their services.”
