Finding Purpose Through Growth: Q&A with Karli McIntyre
Posted On: July 13, 2026
Karli McIntyre’s career journey has taken her from the traditional public accounting path to a role focused on learning, development, and helping others grow. After earning her CPA and spending years in public accounting, she realized she wanted work that felt more aligned with her values and purpose. In this Q&A, Karli shares how she found YPTC, what she enjoys most about her role as Training Content Manager, and why the people and culture continue to inspire her every day.
Q: What were your earliest aspirations, and how did they influence your career path?
My earliest career aspirations were kind of all over the place. As a kid, I knew I wanted to work with either people or animals. At different points, I wanted to be a marine biologist and an anesthesiologist.
I was raised to be practical and independent, and I vividly remember sitting with my college advisor and stepdad before classes started. I knew I wanted to be in business school, but I wasn’t sure what direction to take. My stepdad suggested accounting, and I thought, “Why not?” It turned out to be the right fit and started me on the path that shaped my career.
Q: How did your journey lead you to Your Part-Time Controller, LLC (YPTC)?
Like many accounting students, I followed the traditional public accounting track. I completed an internship with a Big Four accounting firm, earned my CPA and master’s degree, and gained valuable experience along the way.
Eventually, I reached a point where I had achieved everything I thought I was supposed to achieve, but I wasn’t fulfilled. I looked around at the leaders ahead of me and realized I didn’t want the same path. Many seemed burned out and disconnected from the things that mattered most to them.
That realization sent me on a journey to better understand myself, my purpose, and the type of organization I wanted to be part of.
After leaving a previous position, I took a six-month sabbatical and focused on finding something more aligned with my values. Through a referral, I found YPTC. Interestingly, I originally applied for an Associate position and wasn’t selected. Rather than seeing it as rejection, I saw it as redirection.
A few weeks later, a Training Content Manager position opened up. I immediately knew it was the right fit, and the rest is history.
Q: What is your current role at YPTC?
I am a Training Content Manager at YPTC.
In my role, I help develop content for our national webinars, support training sessions at in-person staff meetings, and work to align our team’s learning and development needs with the skills required to best serve our nonprofit clients. My focus is helping our staff continue to grow professionally while ensuring they have the tools and resources they need to succeed.
Q: What are the most rewarding aspects of your role?
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is the opportunity to connect with people across the firm.
I get to work with leaders and team members from all over the country, learn about their experiences, and better understand their goals and challenges. Those conversations directly influence the training and development programs my team creates.
A great example was attending several regional staff meetings last year. I had the opportunity to visit teams in Houston, Phoenix, and Philadelphia. It was incredible to experience the unique culture of each market while also seeing the strong sense of connection that exists throughout the entire organization.
Being able to learn from our people and help create meaningful learning experiences for them is incredibly rewarding.
Q: What aspects of YPTC’s culture positively impact your day-to-day work?
The three aspects of YPTC that have the biggest impact on my day-to-day experience are flexibility, support, and excellence.
The flexibility to work remotely and maintain a schedule that fits my life is incredibly valuable. As a part-time employee, having that balance allows me to bring my best self to work every day.
I’m also surrounded by supportive leaders and colleagues who care about me as a person, not just as an employee. One thing that has always stuck with me is when my director said he wants us to bring our whole selves to work. That mindset creates an environment where people feel seen, valued, and supported.
Finally, excellence is one of YPTC’s core values, and it resonates deeply with me. I’ve always tried to approach my work with excellence, and it’s inspiring to be part of an organization that actively encourages and embodies that value.
Q: What motivates you to continue your career at YPTC?
What motivates me most is the people.
I’m surrounded by individuals who genuinely want to see me succeed. Whether I have a big challenge to work through or a small question to ask, I know there are people willing to help, listen, and offer support.
Having that kind of network has changed everything for me. Feeling supported, encouraged, and invested in motivates me to continue growing and contributing every single day.
Q: What excites you most about your future at YPTC?
We’re living through an incredibly exciting time as technology and AI continue to reshape the way we work.
What excites me most is helping people adapt and grow alongside those changes. As automation handles more routine tasks, the skills that matter most are shifting toward critical thinking, communication, storytelling, emotional intelligence, and empathy.
These are areas I’m deeply passionate about, and I’m excited to continue helping our staff develop those skills so they can serve clients and nonprofits even more effectively.
I believe YPTC is uniquely positioned to embrace these changes, and I’m looking forward to contributing to that future while helping others grow along the way.
