The Jewish Community Center of Mid-Westchester, located in Scarsdale, N.Y., is a multi-generational nonprofit center that supports its community by offering outstanding human services and educational, cultural and recreational programs within and beyond our walls. Its programs are grounded in Jewish values and it welcomes allServing as a vital hub for communal engagement and evolving to meet the needs of the community, JCCMW has a positive impact through classes, events and programs of excellence that educate, inform, challenge, and engage people from newborns to seniors. JCCMW’s work and programs are conducted through a Jewish lens that cherishes Jewish values and traditions, understands and supports the important role of Tzedakah (charity) and Tikkan Olam (Repairing the World), and models and teaches these values to future generations of all faiths and backgrounds.

CEO Karen Kolodny learned about Your Part-Time Controller while serving on the board of directors of another nonprofit that was quite pleased with YPTC’s work. Today, Kolodny can’t say enough good things about YPTC in general and Associate Kate Urmeneta in particular. Urmeneta is responsive and her presentations to the JCC board are “professional, well thought-out and informative.” One of the things that Kate has an ability to do is to tell a story with the numbers, which helps the non-financial people on the board understand what’s going on, she says. “Not every CFO can do that, and that’s very important. You want to make people on a board feel that they’re learning something. If all you do is speak in finance terms, the non-finance people on the board feel disenfranchised.”

Urmeneta has also given staff tools to better manage the JCC’s business and has mentored and trained them. “And she’s just fun to work with. Don’t minimize the importance of having personal relationships with your colleagues,” Kolodny adds. “You can be professional but still have camaraderie.”
