"At YPTC, I can dedicate my time to serving clients while also having support..."

Headshot ST

I joined YPTC in November 2023, after working over 30 years in corporate finance. I earned my accounting degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and spent the last two decades of my career working for a large financial institution. After retiring, I took some time off and eventually returned to work in the nonprofit space in part-time financial roles.

I initially started working as a financial manager for a large church and then eventually added a second role with an organization that provides educational services for individuals with learning disabilities. I connected with YPTC a few months into my post-retirement time and had a great conversation with the team. While I was interested, I also understood the importance of being fully dedicated to a role within this company, which wasn’t doable at the time due to my commitments to the other organizations. After about two years of building my nonprofit experience and considering my next step, I reached back out. I was looking for one full-time position where I could focus my efforts, and YPTC offered that opportunity.

What stands out to me is the ability to focus on nonprofit work as part of a larger team of individuals dedicated solely to this industry. In my previous roles prior to coming on board, I worked part-time across multiple organizations. At YPTC, I can dedicate my time to serving clients while also having support, structure, and benefits that come with a full-time role (although they offer part-time opportunities as well, with benefits).

I have worked with organizations all over the country, even as far as Alaska. The variety of clients keeps the work interesting, and each engagement brings different challenges to solve. That variety, paired with the mission-driven nature of nonprofit work, has made this a rewarding next step in my career. At this stage of life, I was looking for something meaningful to close it out as my ‘final’ stop, and I’ve found that here. YPTC has given me the opportunity to apply my experience in a way that supports organizations doing important work in their communities.
